It works nicely, with good range, just what I needed to connect my non-wifi W7-32 refurbished laptop to various hotel networks. The tools on the mini-CD installed with no problem, and after I enabled the 'WLAN Autoconfig' Service in the laptop the dongle was able to find all the local wi-fi servers.
The protocols were sorted automatically by the RA-link utility, and all I needed each time was the various hotels' ID and password. It gets quite warm in use, I guess it is taking about half a watt. It has never failed me in a higher power (500mA) USB port, but it can be unreliable in a lower power (100mA) USB port. The LED near the Dynamode logo shows when it is in use. The Dynamode website says it uses the REALTEK 8188SU chip-set, but on the case is written RA5370. The 4cm length sticking out is vulnerable and means it requires unplugging each time I move or put away the laptop. I would have preferred to buy the tiny with its 'lower power Ralink 5370' chipset, but unexpectedly needing wifi in a hurry while on holiday a couple of years ago, I picked up the only dongle I could get; one of these from a local shop at three times the Az price.
I went for this great value product based on previous straight-fives reviews, so I'm sorry to break the pattern. Initial installation under Windows 7 64-bit system seemed to go ok and in under ten minutes things should have been working. However the radio in the device would not turn on. The utility ran up ok - i.e. Talking to the device and registering its mac address - but any attempt to turn on the radio just resulted in the error: ' Switch radio failed'. I didn't give up there but wasted 2 hours re-booting, re-installing drivers, getting new drivers from the website etc.etc.
But with no difference. Next I tried using windows XP. Here things went better and after installation the radio sprang into life - but the over eager little device proceeded to connect to my neighbour's BT-Zone router. I set up a profile for mine including wpa key and it was finally able to connect successfully. However it does not remember this profile as a default. Every time I turn on the computer (or remove and replace the adaptor) it just connects back automatically to the neighbour. If I re-select my profile then the utility insists that I re-enter all the set-up information including the wpa key! Windows Phone Xap File Decompiler Visual Basic.
Clearly that's not tolerable. I have raised separate support requests with Dynamode.com but have not had a response from them, which is very poor. It's going back. If Dynamode don't reply at all then my review will probably have to go down to 1 star. I went for this great value product based on previous straight-fives reviews, so I'm sorry to break the pattern.
