There lived a pious man all by himself, who spent most of his time in praying, fasting and praising Allah. Almost all his waking hours were utilised in meditation and devotions. He was very happy with his spiritual progress. No wicked thoughts came to his mind and no evil temptations entered his heart. One night, he dreamt a rather disturbing dream. He saw that a shopkeeper in the town was far superior to him in spirituality and that he must go to him to learn the basics of true spiritual life. In the morning, the pious man went in search of the shopkeeper.
He found him busy with his customers, selling goods and collecting money with a cheerful face. He sat there in a corner of the shop and watched the shopkeeper carefully. No signs of any spiritual life at all, he said to himself.
His dream could not be true. But then he saw the shopkeeper disappear to pray his Salah.
When he returned, he was busy dealing with money matters again. The shopkeeper noticed the pious man sitting in the corner and asked: “As Salamu Alaikum, would you like something, brother?” “Wa Alaikum As Salam. No!” said the pious man. “I don’t want to buy anything, but I want to ask you a question.” He then related his dream. “Well, that is very simple to explain,” said the shopkeeper, “but you will have to do something for me before I answer your question.” “I will do anything for you,” replied the pious man. Take this saucer; there is some mercury in it.
Go to the other end of the street and come back fast within half an hour. If the mercury falls out of the saucer, you will hear nothing from me. There you go now.” The pious man took the saucer and started running. The mercury nearly wobbled out of the saucer.
He saved it just in time, and slowed down. Then he remembered he had to return within half an hour, so he started walking at a fast pace. At long last he returned puffing and panting. “Here is your mercury, safe and sound,” he told the shopkeeper. “Now tell me the true interpretation of my dream.” The shopkeeper looked at the pious man’s weary condition and asked him: “Well, friend, how many times did you remember Allah while you were going from this end of the street to the other?” “Remember Allah!” exclaimed the pious man. “I did not remember Him at all.
I was so worried about the mercury in the saucer.” “But I do remember Him all the time,” said the shopkeeper. “When I am doing my business, I am also carrying mercury in a saucer. I am fair, honest and kind to my customers. I never forget Allah Ta’ala in my dealings with other men.” “Men whom neither trade nor sale (business) diverts from the remembrance of Allaah (with heart and tongue) nor from performing As‑Salaah (Iqaamat‑as‑Salaah) nor from giving the Zakaah. They fear a Day when hearts and eyes will be overturned (out of the horror of the torment of the Day of Resurrection). That Allaah may reward them according to the best of their deeds, and add even more for them out of His Grace. And Allaah provides without measure to whom He wills” [Al Quran, Surah an-Noor 24:37-38] (Imaan) by:United Muslims World.
Then formed him and breathed His Spirit into him and gave you hearing, sight and hearts. What little thanks you show! (As-Sajda, 9) The eyes are one of the windows of the body, opening to the exterior world. The protection and maintenance of these vital organs are provided by the eyelids, which have a perfect creation. The duty of the eyelids is to protect the eyeball, as well as to maintain the “conjunctiva” and “cornea” at a certain moisture level. The blood vessels of the thin layer called the conjunctiva, on the inner part of the eyelids, feed the exterior layer of the eye that cannot receive oxygen during sleep. The skin of the eyelid, which completely and firmly covers the eye socket when required, is relatively thin.
The lower layer of the eyelid skin is lean and very loose. The blood is easily collected there. If the eyelid had thicker skin and a more bulky structure, then opening and closing the eyes would be much harder.
Everyone blinks thousands of times a day unknowingly. This movement is made involuntarily and the eyes are protected from intense light and airborne foreign bodies. This automatic action is a blessing which many people do not appreciate.
What would happen if this cleaning was not performed automatically? In such a case, one would only remember to blink when one felt irritation in his eyes. This would cause the eye to be contaminated with germs. As the eyes would not be cleaned completely, a misty, cloudy vision would occur. Blinking would become a major problem and people would need to concentrate on blinking throughout the day. Antiseptic Eye Liquids When the eyes blink, the eyelids water the eyes and clear the dirt, like windscreen wipers.
As the eyelids are closed during sleep, the eyes are automatically protected against drying. The eyelid is perfectly fitted to the curved structure of the eye.
With this perfect harmony, every point on the front surface of the eye is contacted and cleansed during the opening and closing of the eyelid. If the eyelid did not perfectly cover the eye, then it would not be possible to clean the foreign substances completely. An oily secretion, secreted during the opening and closing of the eyelids from special glands (meibomian glands) within the eyelids, prevents the lids from sticking to each other and facilitates the sliding of the eyelids over the eyes.
(Harun Yahya, The Miracle in the Eye) It is very important that the eyelid remains closed while sleeping. If the eyelid was open while sleeping, then sleeping would become an extremely difficult task. People would need dark rooms for sleeping and no one would be able to sleep during the daytime. Eyes which remained open during sleep would be vulnerable to all kinds of external irritant.
Early Warning System The eye is protected against hazards by an existing early warning system. The fundamental elements of this system are the nerves located on or around the eye, which enable the eye to sense and assess any threat to the eyes.
These nerves then stimulate the muscles operating the eyelid. There are different types of muscles responsible for the opening and closing of the eyelids. The movement of the eyelids, dependant on these muscles, occurs in three ways: – Regular blinking, – Reflex closure, – Voluntary closure. Blinking according to the conditions: Blinking is a characteristic of vertebrates living in an air environment and possessing eyelids. The eyelids close 10-20 times a minute involuntarily. Factors such as continuous reading, focusing, or the increase of moisture in the air, reduce the number of blinks. Factors such as the increase in temperature or light increase the blink rate.
In this way, the cleansing of the eye is achieved automatically, without interruption, and with no inconvenience to the organism or human. Reflex Closure Reflexes are the involuntary reactions made within a short period of time against various external stimuli. This reflex mechanism activates the eyelid when required and protects against hazards. Touching the cornea or eyelash, or rapidly touching the center of the eyebrow or forehead causes a reflex, stimulating the eyelid to blink. When the nerve network causing the blinking reflex is examined, it is clearly seen that this network has a finely planned structure. The warnings transmitted to the eyelid for each reflex mentioned above pass through different nerve paths. In other words, the eye is protected by several well equipped, early warning systems.
The brain evaluates these nervous warnings within a very short period of time and transmits the signals to the relevant muscles. During this event, the nerve signals do not lose their way, and they reach the brain in one thousandth of the second. As a result of the order received from the brain, the eyelid closes in a timely manner, in order to protect the eye from foreign substances, and to act as a windscreen wiper. The recognition of the existing hazard, and the transmission of reflex nerve signals without ever being lost or misinterpreted are indeed very complex events. The human being must be continuously informed about all external events that might affect him, in order to continue his life surrounded by constantly changing conditions. Therefore, blinking occurs very rapidly, so as not to affect the perception of the human being related to the exterior world.
If this had taken longer, then people would miss significant dangers while in the act of blinking, which would severely affect life. The eyes, a few characteristics of which we have discussed here, are one of the greatest blessings that enable us to appreciate the outstanding artistry of Allah, and to be continuously grateful to Him for every moment that passes (Imaan) by:United Muslims World. Death is a subject that few are comfortable with.
Yet, making death your best friend can enhance your life in ways you might not otherwise imagine. One of the most effective practices recommended by traditional Toltec teachers, is called, “Using death as an adviser”. Deceased author of over ten books of Toltec wisdom, Carlos Castaneda said “Death is the only wise adviser that we have. Whenever you feel, as you always do, that everything is going wrong and you’re about to be annihilated, turn to your death and ask if that is so. Your death will tell you that you’re wrong; that nothing really matters outside its touch. Your death will tell you, ‘I haven’t touched you yet.In a world where death is the hunter, my friend, there is no time for regrets or doubts.
There is only time for decisions.” Decisions are the key. Every moment of every day of your life, you are making decisions. How many of those decisions are based on the fact that you are a being who is not only going to die, but could die at any moment? For example If most people knew they were going to die tomorrow, or next week, or even in a year, they would probably focus on just a few things Spending time with their loved ones Forgiving and seeking forgiveness Taking actions that they feel would make the world a better place Doing the things they most enjoy doing — DON’T IGNORE THIS ONE Tying up loose ends Careful planning to make every moment count Can you imagine what your life would be like if you were living like this now?
We don’t do this though. Instead we make decisions based on fear. We tell ourselves we don’t have time to do those things — that we have to take care of what is “important”. It’s a sad fact that oftentimes what we think is most important, is least important. Don Juan Matus, Castaneda’s benefactor, said, “Your problem is that you think you have all the time in the world.” He told him that because he never took death into account, he didn’t bother to take care of what was important — living as if he was going to live forever. If you knew you would die tomorrow, would you spend your day off taking your daughter horseback riding as you promised, or would you let your boss talk you into getting some overtime? Who would you feel more comfortable letting down?
Ohhhhh, but you say, “That would be irresponsible. I could get fired, and then where would my daughter be?” Well, I don’t know about your daughter, but I can suggest that you might do well to consider that your job may not be the most harmonious one for you.
May I be so bold as to suggest that you may be wasting your time? Ask your death what you are here to do. You’ll be surprised to find out that people, including you, are most prosperous when they find and develop their own unique and special gift, or talent — their life mission. You will discover that your life mission is also your passion.
In other words, you will love doing this more than any other work. It’s what you were made for.
Here’s something you will hear me say over and over You And Your Path Are One There’s no time for fear based decisions, and there’s no time to keep putting off dealing with the things you need to deal with. I can’t count how many times I have delayed making a decision simply because I didn’t want to look at the issues I would have to examine first. We all do that all the time. We put things off because they are overwhelming, annoying, or confusing. We tell ourselves, “I will take care of that later”. Want to know what all of those things hanging over your head like black clouds do to you?
They cause STRESS! They also cause depression, anxiety, and low self esteem as you judge yourself for your ineffectiveness and inefficiency. Want some good advice? Take some time to sit down with your best adviser, your death, and ask what would be the best actions you can take in your life. Keep this valuable friend always in the back of your mind to keep you from slipping back into unawareness or complacency. Start working through these self esteem worksheets to discover and eliminate the self defeating beliefs that cause you to make fear based choices and decisions.
Jadi, beliau terpaksa menangguhkan dulu permohonan.
There are many reasons why confidence can help improve your life, but being confident is easier said than done. Becoming a confident person is a choice you make, and a process that you may have to work at in order to end up where you want to be. You want the improvements that self-confidence can bring to your life – you want to make more money, more friends, and have better health and a more positive outlook – but it’s hard to know exactly what to do to make yourself more confident. If you find yourself in this position, you can follow these tips to try increasing your confidence to see what kind of a difference it can make in your life. 1)Never discount your achievements.
It is very easy to get caught up on all the negatives – all the things you haven’t done, all the things you tried that didn’t work, and the times you were late or didn’t get something done – and that’s a really easy way to drag yourself down. In order to build up your confidence, make it a point to focus on what you have accomplished. No matter if it is something as simple as remembering a small detail, taking time to help someone, making an improvement that you’re proud of, or turning in a project before its deadline, you do something every day that you can use to build your self-confidence. Every achievement and victory is important, and remembering to take pride in the things that you do will help you be able to change your mindset into being more focused on all the positives in your life.
2)Start the day off with a mantra. It might seem cheesy or trite, and it’s probably something you’ve heard a hundred times before, but having a motto or a mantra to help you organize your thoughts and start the day off right can be a great way to build your confidence. A mantra is something that you repeat to yourself each day, a kind of reminder that who and where you are is a step in the process of who and where you want to be. If it helps, don’t just repeat a mantra, but write it down and hang it somewhere you can see it every day, such as your bathroom mirror or refrigerator door. However, it is very important that you repeat it to yourself. One of the following may be useful for you, or you can research or write your own mantra.
Remember: it should be uplifting, helpful, encouraging, and (above all) remind you to be more confident in yourself and your abilities. • I am determined to know the truth about myself. • I will dare to be a little eccentric. • I refuse to allow rejection to keep me from taking the initiative. • Self-confidence is about progress, not perfection.
• Positive things happen to positive people. 3)Practice the things you’re good. If you are very experienced and excel at doing a particular activity, although you may be close to an expert level, there is nothing wrong with continuing to practice to get better. Published writers do not stop doing writing exercises once they become published, concert pianists do not stop practicing because they are performing in front of thousands of people, black-belt martial artists do not stop once they have been awarded their black belt or won a competition.
All these people got to the top of their game by practicing, and they will stay at the top because they have confidence that in working so hard to get where they are they have learned the skills to continue perfecting their abilities. Doing what you’re good at will help remind you of the positives in your life – where you’ve come from and what you’re capable of. 4)Practice what you’re not as good. If you have something that you are working to improve on, don’t forget to dedicate time to practice to improve this area of your skills as well.
If you are a sales person who is trying to get better at making cold calls to clients you won’t get better if you don’t make those calls. If you are a dancer who is trying to master a difficult move or an athlete who is trying to improve your game, you won’t do either of these things without daily dedication to making that improvement. Once you have reached the goal you’ve set for yourself and have achieved this milestone you will be able to look back with confidence and say “I did it!” and count it amongst your achievements. 5)Try new things. One of the great things about life is how rich with experience it can be. There are thousands of activities you can try to find out what you like and don’t like, and trying anything is both a challenge and an accomplishment.
Any time you step outside your comfort zone and take on the challenge of something new – taking an art class, going skydiving, trying a new type of food – you have accomplished something just by trying. Whether you find that you like it or not, you have learned something and can take confidence in the fact that you pushed yourself. There are many ways to improve your confidence, and you may find that some suggestions work better for you than others. However, it is important for you to find purpose to your life in order to boost your confidence, as purpose drives and motivates each of us and reminds us of the value of our lives.
Value isn’t simply about what we enjoy or what we are good at, but what good we do for others and what we contribute to the world around us. Confidence is reinforced by happiness, and the satisfaction that we get by being reminded of how strong we are, what we are good at, and what we are capable of can easily push each of us to achievement. And then the achievement feeds confidence. It’s a self-reinforcing cycle.
So, begin today by jumping right in the middle with both feet – there’s no other way to improve self-confidence. About The Author: Diggy used to be super shy and have zero confidence. Happiness is such a subjective term. It means so many different things to different people. But there are common blocks that apply to us all, and they may not be what you think.
Let me explain. Most of us think that the blocks to our happiness involve things like not having enough money or being in a bad relationship. Whatever the case may be, we often blame our unhappiness on things and people external to us. But in doing so, we’re completely missing the mark, which is why no matter what we try we stay stuck in our unhappiness. But there’s another solution.
Whenever we are unhappy is can be attributed to one or more of the reasons below. And these are the real blocks to your happiness. But the good news is, because they are within your control to change, your happiness is within your control to improve as well. Let’s take a look at these real blocks to happiness and what you can do about them. 1) Lack of self-worth and self-acceptance: When you lack self-respect and self-love and acceptance what ends up happening is you give your power away to others. You allow others to disrespect you and this causes you to feel frustrated and unhappy. Now, while it may appear like others are treating you badly, the truth is that their behaviour is simply mirroring your own beliefs about yourself.
So instead of blaming others for your unhappiness, take responsibility for how you allow others to treat you, and most importantly, how you treat yourself. Main lesson 1: Take responsibility for your own life. That’s the only way anything will change. See where you are giving your power away and stop. Start talking to yourself, and about yourself, in loving terms and you will see the people and circumstances in your life change for the better too. Main lesson 2: Set healthy boundaries of what you will and will not accept from others, and then uphold them. When you show others how to respect you, they will respect you.
Then make choices about who you want in your life. What are the relationships that matter to you? Which ones are toxic?
Know that you have to love the soul but you don’t have to love the behaviour. So make your decisions with love and compassion and know that this doesn’t mean you have to be a doormat. It benefits all when we stand up for ourselves in a healthy way. 2) Lack of confidence; seeking approval. When you seek others’ approval to live your life by your own terms you end up chasing after something you may not even want.
You allow others to dictate how happy you are based on whether or not they approve of who you are and what you’re doing. In all likelihood, there will always be someone who disagrees with you or doesn’t understand your choices, and if you live your life trying to get everyone to approve of you, you will be wasting a lot of your personal energy. This then depletes your happiness reserve as well.
Find your inner confidence, the one where your self-worth doesn’t depend on anyone else’s opinion. Then live your life as you feel is best without apology and without having to defend or justify it to anyone else. Those who really matter in your life will support you either way because they love you either way. Main lesson 1: Find your inner confidence. While sometimes this seems easier said than done, it is possible if you decide it’s what you want to do.
The first step to confidence is acceptance. So accept yourself as you are right now and even where you are right now. You are exactly where you need to be for your personal journey. You were made exactly as you needed to be for your personal purpose. So don’t discount your worth and don’t compare yourself to others. We each have our own path in life, sometimes they intersect, and sometimes they don’t, but either way, we each are valuable just as we are. Main lesson 2: Own your choices.
Atomic Lancer Motorcycle. Know your motivations and do your best to ensure your choices are proactive and loving and aligned with your truest desires (rather than your ego’s desires). Then you will always have the confidence to follow through on those choices and you will no longer fear making mistakes because you will realize that when your choices are rooted in love, there are no such things as mistakes; only learning opportunities.
So stop questioning yourself and start taking action towards your best life now. 3) Lack of authentic direction; following the whims of your ego that are inspired by competition and a lack mentality. When you are thinking in terms of what you think you don’t have that others do, you are aligning yourself with lack of happiness and lack in general. When you chase after dreams that are based on filling a perceived void with things external to you, like material things or even relationships, then you are looking for happiness in the wrong places. It’s not the things or the people that are the issue; it’s always the motivation and intentions behind your drive that matter most. Find your inner happiness center and all those externals will become compliments to your life rather than what you depend on for your joy. Main lesson 1: Know what you want and why.
Decipher between your authentic and inauthentic desires. To do this you simply need to pay attention to how you are feeling about your desires. Are you feeling a lack that you feel you need to fill, a desperation of sorts? Or are you feeling peaceful and excited to manifest what you already know is yours and within your capabilities to do, be, and have? Your motives and intentions are what determine the tone of your life experiences. If you can figure out the “what” and then the “why,” you will be ahead of the curve in living the life of your dreams. And the best part is that you will be doing so from a place of joy and inner confidence rather than a place of stress and uncertainty.
Main lesson 2: Often unhappiness stems from feelings of “not enough.” When you feel lack in your life it causes you to feel depressed and lonely. But you can change that by adopting an attitude of abundance.
Now this doesn’t mean pretending to be something or someone you’re not. All it means is becoming more appreciative and observant of what you already have in your life right now. When you are appreciating, that means you are not depreciating. So no matter how small you think it is, find something to be grateful for right now, and build on that feeling by seeing the world as your oyster. 4) Lack of higher purpose and grander goals and visions.
When you lack purpose you lack direction and it’s much easier to get swept up in the ways of the ego that cause your unhappiness. That’s why it’s so important to figure out what drives you, what you are passionate about, and what purpose you’re driven towards. Figuring out your purpose and who you are at your core is extremely important to your level of happiness. Main lesson 1: In order to find your purpose, which will ultimately bring you immense joy and satisfaction, simply ask yourself a series of questions like, “What do I feel called to do in my life? What am I passionate about? What qualities do I have that can be valued and shared with the world?
What am I exceptionally good? What kind of person do I want to be? What do I want my legacy to be?” Main lesson 2: But remember that your purpose is something you infuse into everything you do and everything you are. It’s not just about your vocation. It’s about what fuels you in every area of your life. Look to your passions and truest desires and there you will find your purpose.
5) Lack of priorities; misguided and scattered energy. You need to define what happiness means to you personally and then prioritize those things, people, and activities that mean the most to you. Then make time for it all. It’s about balance and delegation where necessary. It’s about finding your inner Zen, which gives you the energy and strength for everything you need to accomplish in life. Main lesson 1: What’s important to you?
If you strip away all the distractions in your life for one moment, what are you left with? Why are you doing all of this in the first place? Figure out what’s most important to you and then make sure you make it a priority in your life. Main lesson 2: Understand that being balanced in your life is extremely important to your overall happiness and well-being.
That doesn’t mean that sometimes certain things won’t grab at your attention more than others. It simply means that if you look at each year or even each month of your life, for instance, that you’ll be able to say that you gave every area of your life its fair dues. It means that you realize that life is not a dress rehearsal and that you get out of it what you put into it.
So learn to prioritize and you will no longer feel the pains of regret for days gone by where you didn’t do what you really wanted to do. Make this life and every moment count and you’ll be happier for it. So these are the 5 blocks to your happiness.
They may not be the most obvious blocks, but guaranteed, they are key factors in how happy your life will be. So figure out which of these blocks apply to you and then choose to do something about it.
Know that patchwork never works in the long run and so if you want to truly be happy from the inside-out, you’re going to have to address these issues in one way or another. But it’s always your choice and that’s the most empowering part!

On October 25, 2007, the United States announced harsh new penalties on the Iranian military and its state-owned banking systems. Sanctions, bellicose rhetoric and the implicit threat of military action are goads for another war, one that critics fear is more likely to ignite a nuclear holocaust than prevent one. The question is, why is Iran considered such a serious threat? The official explanation is that it is planning to develop nuclear weapons. But the head of the UN watchdog agency IAEA says he has “no concrete evidence” of an Iranian weapons program.1 And even if there were one, a number of countries have tested or possess nuclear weapons outside the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, including Pakistan, North Korea, India, and probably Israel; yet we don’t consider that grounds for military action. Iran would just be joining a long list of nuclear powers.
Another theory says the push for war is all about oil; but Iran supplies only 15 percent of total Persian Gulf oil exports, and its oil is already for sale.2 We don’t need to go to war for it. We can just buy it. A third theory says the saber-rattling is about defending the dollar. Iran is threatening to open its own oil bourse, and it is already selling about 85 percent of its oil in non-dollar currencies. Iran has broken the petrodollar stranglehold imposed in the 1970s, when OPEC entered into a covert agreement with the United States to sell oil only in U.S. Krassimir Petrov explained this suspected motive in a 2006 editorial in Gold-Eagle.com: As long as the dollar was the only acceptable payment for oil, its dominance in the world was assured, and the American Empire could continue to tax the rest of the world. If, for any reason, the dollar lost its oil backing, the American Empire would cease to exist.
Thus, Imperial survival dictated that oil be sold only for dollars.... If someone demanded a different payment, he had to be convinced, either by political pressure or military means, to change his mind.3 An interesting theory, but it still fails to explain all the facts. In a March 2006 editorial in Asia Times Online, William Engdahl noted that war with Iran has been in the cards as part of the U.S. Greater Middle East strategy since the 1990s, long before Iran threatened to open its own oil bourse.4 And Iran is not alone in wanting to drop the dollar as its oil currency. To curb currency risks, Russia is planning to open an Energy Stock Exchange in St.
17th Edition Consumer Unit Labels For Shelves here. Petersburg next year to trade oil in rubles, something that will have significantly more impact on the dollar than Iran’s oil bourse. Central bankers in Venezuela, Indonesia, and the United Arab Emirates have all said they will be investing less of their reserves in dollar assets due to the dollar’s weakening global position.5 When those countries switch to other currencies for their oil trades, will the United States feel compelled to invade them as well?
These theories all have some merit, but none of them seems sufficient to explain the war drums. What is so special about Iran? Here is another possibility: Iran poses a serious threat, not only to oil and the dollar, but to a secret financial weapon that keeps a global banking empire in power.... Compound Interest: Financial Weapon of Mass Destruction Around 1980, when interest rates were soaring, Johnny Carson quipped on The Tonight Show that “Scientists have developed a powerful new weapon that destroys people but leaves buildings standing – it’s called the 17% interest rate.” Compound interest is the secret weapon that has allowed a global banking cartel to control most of the resources of the world.
The debt trap snapped shut for many countries in 1980, when international interest rates shot up to 20 percent. At 20 percent interest compounded annually, $100 doubles in under 4 years; and in 20 years, it becomes a breathtaking $3,834.6The devastating impact on Third World debtors was underscored by President Obasanjo of Nigeria, speaking in 2000 about his country’s mounting burden to international creditors. He said: All that we had borrowed up to 1985 was around $5 billion, and we have paid about $16 billion; yet we are still being told that we owe about $28 billion. That $28 billion came about because of the injustice in the foreign creditors’ interest rates.
If you ask me what is the worst thing in the world, I will say it is compound interest.7 What bankers call the “miracle” of compound interest is called “usury” under Islamic law and is considered a crime. It was also a crime under Old English law until the sixteenth century, when Martin Luther redefined the offense of “usury” to mean the taking of “excess” interest. Modern Islamic thinkers are not averse to a profitable return on investment when it takes the form of “profit-sharing,” with investors taking some risk and sharing in business losses; but the usurer gets his interest no matter what. In fact he does better when the borrower fails. The borrower who cannot afford to pay off his loans sinks deeper and deeper into debt, as interest compounds annually to the lender. The debt trap that snapped shut in 1980 was set in 1974, when OPEC was induced to trade its oil only in U.S.
The price of oil then suddenly quadrupled, and countries with insufficient dollars for their oil needs had to borrow them from international lenders. By 2001, enough money had flowed back to First World banks from Third World debtors to pay the principal due on their original loans six times over; but interest had consumed so much of those payments that the total debt had actually quadrupled.8 In 1980, median income in the richest 10 percent of countries was 77 times greater than in the poorest 10 percent. By 1999, that gap had grown to 122 times greater. In December 2006, the United Nations released a reported titled “World Distribution of Household Wealth,” which concluded that 50 percent of the world’s population now owns only 1 percent of its wealth, while the richest 10 percent of adults owns 85 percent. At interest compounded annually, the debts of the poorer nations can never be repaid but will just continue to grow. The Private Global Banking Scheme It is this debt scheme, with its lethal weapon of interest compounded annually, that has allowed a small clique of financiers to dominate the business of the world. In Tragedy and Hope, Professor Carroll Quigley wrote from personal knowledge of this financial clique, which he called simply “the international bankers.” Dr.
Quigley, who was Bill Clinton’s mentor at Georgetown University, said the aim of the international bankers was “nothing less than to create a world system of financial control in private hands able to dominate the political system of each country and the economy of the world as a whole,” a system “to be controlled in a feudalist fashion by the central banks of the world acting in concert, by secret agreements.”9 The key to the bankers’ success was that they would control and manipulate the money systems of the world while letting them appear to be controlled by governments. Most countries have now been brought into this private global banking scheme, with most of the world’s money being created by commercial banks in the form of interest-bearing loans.
In the United States today, the only money created by the government consists of coins, which compose only about one one-thousandth of the total money supply. Federal Reserve Notes (dollar bills) are created by the Federal Reserve, a private banking corporation, and lent to the government. The vast bulk of the money supply, however, is created when commercial banks make loans. They do this by double-entry bookkeeping: the sum of the borrower’s promissory note is simply credited as a deposit to the borrower’s account and offset with a matching liability on the bank’s side of its books.10 Money creation is now a private affair in most other countries as well.
Even where the central bank is technically state-owned, as in the United Kingdom and Canada, the central bank creates only the paper currency of the nation, leaving most of the money supply to be created by commercial banks as compound-interest-bearing loans.11 The alternative to this independent “central bank” system is what used to be called “national banking.” A state-owned central bank issued the national currency as an agent of the government, and the government spent the money or lent it into the economy for internal development and public needs. The “seigniorage” on this money — the difference between the cost of creating it and its face value – accrued to the government, which got the money debt- and interest-free. The goal of the international bankers was to privatize this system and bring it under their control. The central bank would still create the national money supply, but it would lend the money to the government, leaving the government with a massive debt on which it owed interest. Once caught in the debt web, the government could then be induced to privatize other assets, making them available for purchase and control by international finance capital.
At a 1968 meeting of the secretive globalist group known as the Bilderbergers, a U.S. Official named George Ball spoke of creating a “world company.” Ball was U.S. Undersecretary of State for Economic Affairs and a managing director of banking giants Lehman Brothers and Kuhn Loeb. The “world company” was to be a new form of colonialism, in which global assets would be acquired by economic rather than military coercion. The “company” would extend across national boundaries, aggressively engaging in mergers and acquisitions until the assets of the world were subsumed under one privately-owned corporation, with nation-states subservient to a private international central banking system.12 Before World War II, the head of this private global banking system was in England; but it moved to Wall Street with the economic ascendancy of the United States. Under the Bretton Woods Agreements, the U.S. Dollar became the world’s “reserve currency” along with gold.
In 1971, President Nixon took the dollar off the gold standard, and the dollar became the world’s reserve currency without that tether. Lenders could create and lend dollars to whatever extent the world could be induced to borrow them. To insure that the lenders got their interest, in the late 1970s the World Bank and International Monetary Fund began imposing “conditionalities” on loans to Third World debtors, requiring them to open up their capital markets, slash spending on social programs, and privatize their industries. Meanwhile, speculative attacks on local currencies that had been left to “float” in foreign exchange markets without the tether of gold caused radical currency devaluations, allowing foreign investors to pick up these privatized assets at bargain basement prices.
When Dominoes Won’t Fall Iran was among the few nations to have escaped this global privatization scheme.
